The story of Coffee Lab UK began back in 2013 when Alex, a Winchester local, & Dhan, originally from Nepal, first met in a small cafe in the centre of Winchester where Dhan was working at the time. They both shared a love of coffee, (and football of course) and after many chats over many cups of coffee (and a few pints) a close friendship soon developed. Dhan is the 6-time UK Latte Art Champion, whose passion for coffee resonated with Alex - at the time the owner of an independent loose leaf tea-focussed café called Alexanders.

 

They both knew what they wanted, and they knew that they wanted to do it together. They wanted to do something a little bit different. To bring the speciality coffees and the coffee culture found in the major cities to the provenances and create a space where people could experience great coffee made with passion in an environment that allows everyone to thrive, grow, learn and enjoy. One day in January 2016 Alex and Dhan arranged to meet in a local wine bar to discuss business ideas, and the rest as they say is history. Dhan came up with the name and Alex to this day still has the original A4 sheet of plain paper with the very first business concept for Coffee Lab on it.

 

The first Coffee Lab, known affectionately as Little Lab, opened in the centre of Winchester on the 15th March 2016. The second Coffee Lab opened in Salisbury in the summertime of the same year. Since these early days, Coffee Lab has opened another nine stores combining coffee, retail, bakehouses and workspaces and most recently acquired other independent cafes; Mettricks in Southampton and Honey & Harvey in Suffolk.

Here at Coffee Lab UK we're reinventing coffee from the grounds-up. Our ethos is to bring coffee culture found in the major cities to the provinces. Sourcing only the finest grade speciality coffees from around the world. Our talented & highly trained coffee specialists combine science, craft & artistry. We believe in provenance, not just in locality. We're passionate about supporting our food producers and wherever possible our food is made on site, from scratch, using the highest quality ingredients available to us.
